SOUND OF BASS DAY SEATTLE - NOVEMBER 21, 2009

We are hosting the first ever Sound of Bass Day in Seattle this Saturday, an event that should not be missed. This is our way of giving back to the musician community in Seattle.

This is the first ever event of it's kind in Seattle and will be an amazing opportunity for musicians to learn, network and discover the Sound of Bass. The Sound of Bass Day includes an afternoon of Workshop/Clinic Sessions presented by master bassists Doug Johns (Cleveland, OH), E Pruitt (Seattle, WA), Pennal Johnson (Chicago, IL), Jeff Morgan (Tacoma, WA), Lawrence Hightower (Olympia, WA), Michael Norwood (Jacksonville, FL) and Randy George (Seattle, WA) followed by a concert featuring these artists.

There is more detailed information about the event, some of the artist bios and You Tube clips, and a link to pre-register at a discount price on our website www.uncontainedsound.com

Jamie Mallender: New Solo CD
Nov 19, 2009 - 10:14 AM - by TalkBass
This summer, former Black Sabbath vocalist, Tony Martin should have been undertaking a 3 month tour of the USA and Canada, and was then scheduled to play several dates in Brazil. As was widely reported in the rock press at the time, the tour was pulled the night before the band were due to fly. Like the rest of the band, bass player Jamie Mallender was left devastated and without work. He returned home to his family and poured all his anger and frustration into completing his solo instrumental album. The album has now been released independently and CDBaby is looking after the sales.

http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/mallenderjamie

CDBaby describes the album as, "A bass guitar oriented fusion, crossover, progressive, instrumental album featuring a mishmash of genres, time changes and mood swings with a loose Sci-Fi B-Movie feel - more musical journey than virtuoso showcase, nevertheless displaying impressive chops."

Jamie Says, " In making "Return To Bass" I have ignored every formula in the book, every critic with an opinion of any kind and every opportunity to make it more commercially accessible. I have skipped from one genre to another and spliced musical styles together, always avoiding the obvious route. This album was not written to please anyone but me. Each track expresses how I felt at the time of recording, and goes on a musical journey that I enjoyed taking. It was not recorded to make a lot of money, or to make me famous. This album is my one finger answer to a music industry that needs a good old shake by the throat, and to all people who are happy to be spoon-fed manufactured music."

All instruments on "Return To Bass" are played by Jamie himself.

Nov 10, 2009 - 12:27 PM - by TalkBass
Plymouth Covenant Church in Plymouth, Minnesota is pleased to present renowned bassist and recording artist Norm Stockton in clinic on Thursday, November 19th, at 7:00 in the Plymouth Covenant sanctuary. Norm will bring a practical range of bass tools to his teaching. This invitation is open to all bassists and other musicians to join us for an evening of growth and learning with Norm. These clinics are geared toward the player in the contemporary worship environment; however, the vast majority of the topics covered are completely applicable to any musical situation, and many of the attendees at past events have not been worship players. This clinic is provided free of charge to all attendees; a free will offering will be taken to cover expenses.

About Norm Stockton:

As bassist, solo artist and clinician (MTD Basses, Gallien-Krueger, Maranatha! Music), Norm Stockton travels extensively throughout North America, Europe and Japan. He currently tours and records with worship artist Lincoln Brewster.

Profiled in Bass Player magazine (12/95), he is a bassist/composer/ educator with extensive experience in a wide array of musical settings. His past recording and/or performance credits include jazz guitarist Steve Laury (solo artist, Fattburger), keyboardist Rob Mullins (solo artist, The Crusaders), bassist Dominique Di Piazza (John McLaughlin Trio, Front Page), guitarist Lincoln Brewster (worship & solo artist, Vertical Records and Steve Perry), Darlene Zschech (worship & solo artist, Hillsong Australia), bluesman Darrell Mansfield, heavy rock group Luna Halo (Sparrow recording artists), singer/songwriter Bill Batstone (Harvest Crusade Praise Band, Franklin Graham Crusades), and many more.

Norm's acclaimed bass instructional dvd series, Grooving for Heaven, has been distributed extensively in the United States and abroad. His solo CD debut, Pondering the Sushi, continues to garner positive feedback from print and on-line media including Bass Player, Jazziz, the Roland User's Group, UCLA's Daily Bruin, Bass Frontiers, Christian Musician, Bassically.net, GlobalBass.com, and SmoothChristianJazz.com. A followup solo recording, Tea in the Typhoon, is scheduled for release later in 2009, and features an array of guest artists including bassists John Patitucci and Michael Manring.

As a bass educator, Norm has served as adjunct faculty at Concordia University, Hope International University, Biola University, The Los Angeles Music Academy, and MusicDojo.com. He also serves as the bass columnist for Christian Musician magazine. Norm lives in Orange County, CA, with his wife and daughters.
